Consisting of a mono-PET tray and resealable lid, Grupo Lantero’s ReKeepEat solution is designed to keep foods fresh for longer and simplify recyclability.

The pack was developed by Grupo Lantero subsidiaries Coexpan and Emsur at the Innotech innovation centre. Its mono-material construction, including recycled content, is set to simplify both the manufacturing and disposal processes by avoiding mixed materials and streamlining recyclability.

According to Grupo Lantero, the pack is suited to fresh and vacuum-sealed products, as well as those requiring modified atmosphere conditions. Using advanced resealing technology, it is set to extend the shelf life of sliced products, meat, and ready meals and reduce food waste, even when the pack is opened and closed repeatedly.

This is also anticipated to save consumers from transferring leftover food from its primary packaging to another container. In turn, it is hoped to save the raw materials needed to manufacture secondary storage packaging, as well as the water required to clean it afterwards.

ReKeepEat is described as an adaptable format, and is designed to let consumers buy products in larger formats without generating food waste.

Customers are encouraged to adopt the solution in pursuit of their recyclability goals for 2030, all without making sacrifices on design or functionality.

Álvaro Bernard, corporate director of Innovation, Marketing and Sustainability at Grupo Lantero, describes ReKeepEat as “a tangible example of how innovation can drive sustainability and open new business opportunities. With this solution, we reinforce our commitment to more responsible packaging that delivers real value to our clients.”

“Every decision in the design of ReKeepEat follows a clear principle-to minimize material usage and reduce environmental impact throughout the product’s life cycle, from manufacturing to recycling,” adds Walter Turci, R&D director at Coexpan.

Among other awards, ReKeepEat has been nominated for a Sustainability Award under this year’s Pre-Commercialized Recyclable Packaging category.

The news comes after Coveris revealed a new, board-based MAP tray solution for the meat, fish and poultry sector. It claims to reduce plastic by 90% and preserve both recyclability and shelf-life.

Elsewhere, Amcor has unveiled a bespoke, three-compartment, mono-polypropylene tray for Cofigeo’s single-serve ready meal range. Developed in line with Design for Recycling guidelines, it is intended for compatibility with French collection, reprocessing, and recycling infrastructure.
