ProAmpac and ScottsMiracle-Gro have unveiled a spouted refill pouch for the Ortho Home Defense Max pest control product, said to utilize 90% less plastic while optimizing the pack for e-commerce.
The pouch is intended to facilitate convenient refill for the dispensing system a consumer already owns, rather than requiring them to purchase a new one. It is designed to be easy to use while reducing the plastic required per unit.
Transitioning away from a rigid container is also set to reduce the pack’s overall weight and optimize it for e-commerce channels, all without sacrificing the amount of solution per pack.
ProAmpac’s chemical- and UV-resistant printing and laminating technology also claims to improve the pack’s durability and preserve the product’s integrity.
“The new Ortho Home Defense Max packaging represents a major step forward in sustainability and consumer convenience,” added Keith Miller, senior packaging engineer at ScottsMiracle-Gro. “By introducing a spouted pouch, we’ve significantly reduced our plastic packaging footprint while ensuring that our customers continue to receive the high-performance pest control solutions they trust.”
Earlier this year, Mondi and Sherwin-Williams revealed recyclable spouted pouches for concentrated paint refills. These were expected to lower the plastic consumption of a 5-litre bucket by 90%, with consumers encouraged to reuse their plastic tubs in the paint mixing process.
L’Oréal has also relaunched refill pouches for several of its hair care, skincare, and fragrance products in its new #JoinTheRefillMovement campaign. In doing so, it hopes to save between 60% and 82% of plastic per refill.
