After exceeding $20 million (€16,990,200) in Series A funding, Founteyn is working with PepsiCo to bring its beverage dispensing service to market – a move expected to cut single-use packaging by up to 80% and halve CO2 emissions.
Founteyn’s patented, all-in-one beverage system involves chilling, carbonization, and capsule-based beverage dispensing. This is thought to unlock an ‘unlimited’ selection of hot, cold and carbonated beverages, replacing bottled and canned drinks altogether.
The start-up’s oversubscribed funding round featured a $22.8 million (€19,366,548) investment from APG on behalf of ABP, alongside dispensing equipment manufacturers Flying Fish and Leysern Aquacore.
By forming a commercial partnership with PepsiCo and SodaStream, Founteyn plans to integrate a ‘wide variety’ of beverage brands into its technology. It will work with its business partner and co-packer, Euro-Caps, to manufacture and fill beverage capsules at scale.
Additionally, it will partner with Culligan Quench for its first pilot launch distribution, aiming to utilize its global reach and experience in water technology to bolster its market entry.
Initially, Founteyn is targeting its technology at the global office and SME beverage delivery services markets; it states that the solution addresses workspace efficiency demands and corporate sustainability mandates. It plans to cater to households in the future.
The company is set to launch in the U.S. and plans to open Series B funding in late 2026 or early 2027.
“This funding validates that the beverage industry is ready for a stir up,” said Boyd Mulder, founder and CEO of Founteyn. “Our patented system delivers freshly made drinks with no compromise on taste, while providing an alternative to ordering, stocking, and storing cans and bottles. As a sustainable option that cuts single-use packaging by up to 80%, we’re helping businesses simplify operations and serve people better.
“With support from APG, on behalf of ABP, and partnerships with PepsiCo and EuroCaps, we’re transforming how beverage brands reach consumers and how businesses serve & delight their employees and customers. We’re also in active discussions with forward-thinking partners as we build toward our Series B in late 2026.”
All the way back in 2023, The Kraft Heinz Company revealed an IoT-enabled and customizable digital sauce dispenser – designed to let consumers combine flavours and keep on top of changing consumer tastes.
Since then, Diageo and Smirnoff have extended the trial for a smart keg-and-dispense system for pubs. This is intended to cut down on single-use glass and offer real-time insights into the solution’s success.
In other news, PepsiCo has joined forces with the San Francisco 49ers to implement reusable cups at Levi’s Stadium. Fans can return their cups to designated bins in a system projected to eliminate the need for ‘tens of thousands’ of disposable single-use cups.
