Flyeralarm and Reuse Me

Online print shop Flyeralarm has collaborated with packaging return network Reuse.Me to bring approximately 1 million A4 shipping boxes into its closed loop system, aiming to keep the packaging in circulation several times before it is recycled.

The cardboard boxes will be used in regular shipping, handed in at defined return points after use, checked and then returned to the cycle. The companies say this gives the packaging a second or third life with consistent quality and without additional burden on existing processes.

Apparently, the closed-loop system was integrated into the existing logistics processes within a few months, without fundamental changes or additional steps. Flyeralarm says paper and cardboard was chosen for the packaging as it is a renewable raw material with high recyclability.

Through the joint project, Flyeralarm and Reuse.Me aim to encourage other companies to initiate their own change processes, highlighting the system’s integration into existing processes, scalability and measurable impact.

In January, Returnity announced that a major retailer had adopted its reusable packaging box solution, The Last Box, in a move hoped to streamline backroom operations and cut down on single-use waste. The box is designed to withstand multiple stages of operations through distribution centres and stores, expected to reduce packaging waste in ‘thousands of high-volume locations’.

Royal Flora Holland has just launched a reusable bucket to transport its flowers in a bid to eliminate approximately 250,000 kg of cardboard annually, reduce supply chain costs, and boost efficiency. The bucket is also believed to reduce handling requirements at the nursery, with the buyer, and further down the supply chain.
