Fedrigoni

Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives has revealed its SH6020-W PLUS adhesive with permanent and wash-off performance, designed for the wine and spirits industry and aiming to support bottle reuse and glass recycling processes.

The company claims the new adhesive is the ‘first’ premium labelling solution on the market combining permanent and wash-off performance within a single adhesive platform, seeking to help converters, designers and brand owners prepare for emerging regulatory requirements such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

SH6020-W PLUS is said to deliver the same ‘premium’ adhesion and reliability as the SH6020 PLUS adhesive technology throughout the product lifecycle and enable clean removal during industrial washing processes. Fedrigoni adds that no new validation is required for customers who are already using SH6020 PLUS, as the formulation remains the same.

The company states that instead of managing different label constructions depending on destination countries of local regulations, the new adhesive means brands can use one solution across multiple markets. The solution is also designed to help reduce complexity, avoid duplicate inventories and respond to increasing demand for circular packaging solutions without changing established production processes.

In related news, in February Henkel Adhesive Technologies entered a strategic collaboration with Swedish chemical company Sekab, focused on replacing conventional ethyl acetate with a ‘sustainable, bio-based’ alternative for adhesive production. Henkel hopes that by working together along the value chain, the companies can bring “scalable, sustainable raw materials to market and create tangible climate benefits”.

More recently, Henkel recently launched what it says is the first cold seal solution designed for barrier-coated paper packaging. We spoke with Dr. Roberto Pela, business development manager for packaging adhesives Europe at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, to learn more about the solution’s attributes, the R&D process, and how it relates to PPWR concerns.
