TamperTech and Datalase

DataLase and TamperTech have joined forces to incorporate DataLases photonic printing technology into tamper tape, aiming to provide security, authentication and tracking in a single solution.

By integrating DataLase’s pigment chemistry as a coating on paper or film within the tape, the new product is said to eliminate the need for additional paper and plastic labels, conventional sealing tapes and traditional wet printing processes that rely on inks, solvents and other materials. The companies state their tape is a ‘more energy-efficient, high-performance’ alternative that enhances product security and supply chain efficiency.

Apparently, the tape offers a multi-functional solution that decorates, informs, protects and secures packaged goods in one application while helping to reduce waste, improve logistics and lower transportation costs. The tape also has the option of customizable track-and-trace functionality, designed to address concerns around counterfeiting and stolen goods by providing instant non-contact and verifiable tamper detection that integrates into existing logistics and security infrastructures.

Datalase and TamperTech say the solution has broad applications across various industries, including strengthening counterfeit prevention and regulatory adherence in pharmaceutical and healthcare applications and increasing consumer trust in e-commerce and retail through visible tamper-proof packaging.

In related news, DS Smith recently launched its TapeBack solution designed to eliminate the need for single-use plastic tear strips in e-commerce packaging, using one glue strip for two e-commerce shipments. The company adds that the new solution avoids mixing components, seeking to make it easy to recycle at home.

At the start of this year, Giesecke+Devrient revealed its reusable, ‘ultra-thin’ G+D Smart Label, which embeds IoT features into a package and enables features such as location tracking, tamper protection and proof of delivery. Developed alongside hardware partner Sensos, the label is designed to track parcel delivery and shipping, assist in fleet management, and monitor the movement of luxury goods.
