SIG and ALCA Corp have announced the launch of the first products filled on SIG’s aseptic spouted pouch system featuring in-line pouch sterilization, removing the need for third-party pre-sterilization.
ALCA claims to be the first customer worldwide to bring products to market with the new SIG Prime 55 In-Line Aseptic system. According to SIG, key benefits of the new system include high output with filling speeds of up to 55 pouches per minute, reduced operating costs from in-line sterilization and flexibility, with filling volumes ranging from 30ml to 500ml.
ALCA is also expanding its portfolio with the launch of an aseptic pouch featuring SIG’s CloverCap closure. The first products in this format will highlight the banana and MD2 pineapple ingredients. With this new capability, ALCA says it will also provide co-packing services.
The official debut of SIG’s new asceptic line will take place at Anuga 2025, held in Cologne, Germany, from October 4th-8th.
In July, SIG revealed its first 1-litre aseptic carton packs made of SIG Terra alu-free and full barrier packaging material, utilized by ALDI for its Rio d’oro grape juice in parts of Germany. The products are produced and filled at the Italian beverage and food producer Quargentan using its existing SIG Midi 12 Aseptic filling machine.
Earlier this year, Corvaglia introduced its first closure for aseptic carton packaging, reportedly made of 100% HDPE and able to be integrated into existing carton packaging filling lines without any technical adjustments. The design seeks to minimize the amount of residue that remains in the packaging after pouring, contributing to reducing food waste.
