AIPIA, the Active & Intelligent Packaging Industry Association, in conjunction with its partner Packaging Europe, has confirmed that the next World Congress will take place on the 14th and 15th of November at the Beurs van Berlage in central Amsterdam.

This will continue the series of successful events held at this iconic venue after the return of the ‘live’ Congress, post-COVID-19, held in November 2022.

At the same time, Packaging Europe announced that it will hold its prestigious Sustainable Packaging Summit over the same dates, also at the Beurs van Berlage. This event also includes the announcement of the winners of the Sustainably Awards competition at a gala dinner, which will also be held at Beurs van Berlage.

Announcing the dates for the AIPIA World congress, managing director of the Association, Eef de Ferrante said: “We are delighted to return once again to the venue we have used now for several years. It has proved to be a hit with presenters, exhibitors and delegates and provides just the right atmosphere for our ‘creative chaos’. Amsterdam has all the amenities for an international Congress and gives the event an extra dimension.”

“We are also delighted that our partners Packaging Europe will be bringing their Sustainable Packaging Summit to the Beurs. This is a ‘win-win’ situation for all delegates and participating companies.”

“These are two very distinct events and they will have very distinct identities and agendas. But there are also several ‘touchpoints’ where smart packaging is a key factor in several sustainability initiatives , for example HolyGrail 2.0 or the use of active materials to extend shelf life of food and avoid waste. So we hope to exploit those synergies during the week and bring together some presenters and delegates to talk about the very real contribution smart packaging can and is making to making the world a greener place.”

“We have ambitious plans for 2023,”continued de Ferrante. “We particularly want to encourage start-ups to take part, as well as the industry leaders who are doing so much to scale up the implementation of smart packaging among Brand Owners and Retailers. start-ups need to find suitable partners to help them develop innovative concepts. The Congress provides a unique networking opportunity, so we are working on a special package to help them join in.”

The Association also announced it is working with a number of international partners to run a series of events in Asia, India and beyond. Andrew Manly, Communications Director for AIPIA explained, “We are working with informa markets to run market-focused seminars or summits alongside the ProPak events in Manila, Philippines and Bangkok, Thailand initially and hope to reinstate our highly successful event in China, now it is opening up again. Additionally, we are working with IPPStar in India to run a conference with them in Mumbai, which will cover smart technologies.”

Calls for expressions of interest in speaking or sponsoring the Congress in Amsterdam will go out shortly. But if members, or indeed new smart packaging developers, want to learn more about the opportunities on offer they can contact the Association and Congress sales team at Packaging Europe direct. Also, more details will be available shortly via the AIPIA website.
