About the webinar
Metal packaging manufacturers are under pressure to meet sustainability targets, reduce material use and respond to evolving regulation, without compromising product quality or performance. At the same time, cost pressures and high-speed production mean changes need to work commercially as well as technically.
New research from Industrial Physics suggests the industry is confident in its ability to meet current requirements, but less certain about what comes next.
In this webinar, experts from Industrial Physics, the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association and Suntory Food and Beverage Europe will discuss how these pressures are playing out in practice. The session will examine how manufacturers are balancing lightweighting and recyclability with structural integrity, quality and cost, alongside the impact of changing regulation and customer requirements.
The speakers will also address a key question raised by the research: if manufacturers recognise the need for change, what is preventing faster progress? Drawing on technical, industry and manufacturing perspectives, they will discuss the realities of investing in new technology, introducing automation and maintaining quality in live production environments.
The discussion will consider where better measurement and earlier visibility of process variation can help, where investment can have the greatest impact, and how collaboration across the industry can support manufacturers as requirements continue to change.
Learning Objectives
- Gain insight into how regulation, sustainability targets and changing customer expectations are reshaping priorities for metal packaging manufacturers, and what these pressures mean in practice for the years ahead.
- Explore the practical challenges of balancing lightweighting and recyclability with structural integrity, product quality and cost in high-speed manufacturing environments.
- Understand where current quality control and testing approaches are coming under pressure, including challenges around repeatability, operator dependency and identifying quality issues early enough in production.
- Learn how manufacturers are approaching investment and operational change, including the barriers to adopting new technologies and the role of collaboration, measurement and automation in improving long-term resilience.
