Tri-Wall Circular has announced the launch of its returnable packaging solution, the YOYOBin Adjustable, said to have a ‘significant weight reduction’ compared to traditional metal and plastic containers and aiming towards increased efficiency in the automotive industry.
Made from polypropylene, the YOYOBin Adjustable has a capacity of 900 kg and is designed for improved space efficiency during transportation and storage, aiming to further optimize logistics operations. Apparently, the solution has tare weights ranging from 36.5 kg to 53 kg, reducing the overall load in transport and translating to lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions.
The solution is also said to be100% recyclable, hoping to assist automotive OEMs and Tier suppliers in reducing their carbon footprint, with the foldable design allowing for compact storage when not in use and maximizing trailer space during transportation, ensuring fewer trips and lower transportation costs.
Tri-Wall Circular states the YOYOBin Adjustable provides modular design flexibility, allowing users to purchase only the components necessary to adjust the size of the bin, eliminating the need for multiple packaging solutions.
Commenting on the product’s impact, Rodney Salmon, automotive director at Tri-Wall Circular, said: “The automotive industry’s focus on lightweighting doesn’t just apply to the vehicle itself—it extends to every part of the supply chain. The YOYOBin Adjustable addresses this by offering a packaging solution that reduces weight while maintaining strength and durability. It’s a perfect fit for automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers looking to optimise their logistics and meet sustainability goals.”
In April, Carrefour Belgium, Cornet Beer and DW Reusables have developed a returnable six-pack for beer following the new reusable packaging regulations set out in the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR). The six-bottle packs are said to offer the same shopping convenience as single-use packs, including optimized shelf space, easy replenishment and reduced product handling.
Last month Reposit, City to Sea, M&S, and Ecover expanded their pre-filled returnable packaging scheme to ARRAN Sense of Scotland and Mama Bamboo’s beauty and personal care products. Reposit’s returnable system is designed to encourage the return of empty packaging through a ‘return for reward’ framework, through which consumers can redeem a discount against their next purchase.
