Schwan Cosmetics has unveiled refillable, mechanical lip liner cartridges to meet rising demand for sustainability-minded, high-performance beauty products in the APAC market. Its bio-based pencil for lip and eyeliner products has also been nominated for the Cosmopack Asia Awards under the Sustainability category.

The Power Up Your Pout lip liner features exchangeable cartridges containing a peptide and jojoba oil-infused formulation. It can be applied using a drop-shaped tip, which is designed to retain its shape and replicate the natural shape of the lips for easy application with 3-in-1 plump, define, and fill properties.

Extending Schwan Cosmetics’ REFILL & STYLE range of liquid liners, the product’s refill system is set to reduce its environmental impact by negating the need to dispose of packaging when the liner is empty. It is set to meet a growing market for alternatives to single-use beauty products in Asia.

“We understand the needs and preferences of the Asian cosmetics market, which are characterized by fast innovation, product performance with high-quality standards, and most recently, an increased demand for sustainable product offers,” explains Sandra Schäfer, manager of Sustainable Business Innovation at Schwan Cosmetics. “We offer a wide range of products that cater to these demands, from natural and clean formulations to trendy, functional, and sustainable packaging solutions.

“With ‘Power Up Your Pout’, we demonstrate that high-quality beauty products can be sustainable – without compromise. This is an important part of our ongoing commitment to enabling our consumers to reduce the amount of waste from cosmetics products while still feeling great about their look and achieving the latest trending styles.

“When considering our sustainability strategy, our long-term goal is to transition from a linear product life cycle to a closed loop. To achieve this, we aim to prevent waste in landfills and incinerators by replacing virgin fossil plastics in our packaging with recycled and bio-based materials, and developing recyclable and refillable solutions. The PowerUpYourPout lip liners align perfectly with this strategy, allowing us to integrate closed loops for our products.”

Power Up Your Pout was showcased at the Cosmoprof-Asia 2023 exhibition in Hong Kong. The event was twinned with Cosmopack Asia, in which Schwan Cosmetics’ TheBetterBarrel eyeliner and lip liner pencils were nominated as finalists in the Sustainability category of the Cosmopack Asia Awards.

TheBetterBarrel incorporates bio-based materials in airtight packaging that seeks to preserve the volatile ingredients inside the makeup and replace unrecyclable, fossil-based plastic liners. It was displayed alongside a range of other globally available liner and non-liner products at Cosmoprof-Asia.

In other news, the House of Armani recently teamed up with Bormioli Luigi to produce a refillable fragrance bottle for its Armani Si Intense line.

Additionally, Wild’s liquid cosmetics now feature a refillable bottle, as well as refills said to be 100% plastic-free and compostable, designed by Morrama; and Silgan Dispensing’s all-plastic, recyclable refill system, making use of the company’s patented LifeCycle Technology, made its debut at Luxe Pack Monaco.
