ProAmpac’s RotiBag comes with an integrated handle for hot-to-go products like rotisserie chicken – aiming to replace traditional clamshell containers and reduce material usage, with ‘recycle-ready’ and post-consumer recycled options also available.
The pack is designed for durability and leak resistance to keep products fresh and prevent spillages. A fog-resistant window is set to ensure that the product stays visible, regardless of its temperature.
Its slim profile intended to maximize shelf space, with food retailers able to customize on-pack branding with HD flexo-printed graphics.
As well as helping consumers hold the pack, the integrated handle is also expected to negate the need for secondary bags, which would cut down on material compared to rigid containers and therefore reduce packaging waste.
Additional versions of the bag are available. These include a mono-material structure said to offer similar performance to multi-material alternatives, and a pack containing post-consumer recyclate to lessen the amount of virgin resin used in the pack.
It is anticipated that customers will be able to opt in for these sustainability-minded features in pursuit of their own sustainability goals, all without sacrificing the bag’s performance.
“The RotiBag addresses a need in the food retail market for a more sustainable and leak-resistant packaging solution for ready-to-eat products,” said Amir Saffar, director of global sustainability innovation. “ProAmpac’s RotiBag is a high-performance flexible package built for durability, making it ideal for greasy foods.
“Its slim profile ensures efficient shelf display, while its FDA-approved hot fill and microwave-safe features and sustainable options make it an excellent choice for achieving greener packaging goals.”
In a similar development, Sacma previously utilized FSC-certified grass paper and a cellulosic inner liner from Futamura to create an ovenable bag for applications in the rotisserie segment, such as cooked chicken. The pack was also designed to be recyclable and compostable in home and industrial conditions.
Sabert Europe’s rigid, dual-ovenable Hot2Go pack is also geared towards hot takeaway foods. Consisting of a fibre-based body and an optional rPET window, it is designed for 100% recyclability and is said to be both leak- and grease-resistant.
