Mondi has collaborated with Turkish fresh fruit and vegetable exporter Özler Tarım on a corrugated fibre solution aiming to reduce food waste, protect products and optimize operational processes.
Özler Tarım exports fresh produce to Japan, Canada, the United States, Europe, Ireland, United Kingdom and East Asia countries. The company aimed to reduce food waste by improving its packaging to suit the humidity, temperature fluctuations and long-distance shipment requirements.
Mondi worked with Özler Tarım’s team to develop a ‘durable, sustainable and efficient’ packaging solution. The new packaging features a double-wall corrugated fibre structure and a flat-stackable design. Since being implemented, Özler Tarım reports a 15% increase in production capacity at its Adana facility and says costs from packaging defects – such as compensation for damaged goods – have been eliminated.
Back in January, Sunkist Growers celebrated the Lunar New Year by redesigning its citrus cartons and display bins to commemorate the Year of the Snake. The company explained that citrus fruits are considered symbols of good fortune, prosperity, and health in Lunar New Year Celebrations, with the custom-designed packaging utilizing red and gold - traditionally colours of luck and wealth.
More recently, Coveris partnered with the Metis plums brand to debut its new LinerlessLid and punnet packaging in Tesco, aiming to align quality, environmental responsibility and consumer appeal. The new packaging aims to provide an alternative to plastic whilst achieving efficient packing speeds using automated Ravenwood machinery.
