Faerch 1

Faerch has launched its rPET lid for the coffee and beverage industries, aiming to reduce waste and provide a circular solution for businesses.

The company says its lid is crafted from up to 85% recycled PET plastic and can be fully recycled into food-grade packaging. Faerch seeks to reduce carbon footprints and enhance sustainability credentials with the solution.

Faerch states that its new lid ensures coffee chains and beverage providers stay ahead of the legislative curve, designed to comply with upcoming sustainability laws and hoping to facilitate a seamless transition to more responsible practices.

Faerch adds that the lid combines practicality and durability, with a secure fit and ‘smooth and exceptional’ leak resistance. Its ideally suited for busy consumers during the morning rush or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Drinkware manufacturer First Editions revealed its reuseable coffee cup concept in April, made from renewable plant-based polypropylene and created using all-electric injection moulding machinery from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. The FOAMO cups are reportedly made using 85% less virgin polymer material than comparable reusable hot drink cups.

Deliveroo and GAIL’s bakery have teamed up with Sheffield Hallam University for Deliveroo’s Sustainable Packaging Challenge, where students will attempt to develop a sustainable cup for transporting hot drinks between a GAIL’s bakery and its customers. The winning design will be selected at a final exhibition, with winners receiving a £1,500 cash prize and the chance to discuss the potential for their design to go into production with GAIL’s.
