Avery Dennison has launched its AD IdentiFresh inlay series, utilizing RFID technology to provide real-time inventory visibility in fresh food categories including bakery, meat, deli and produce.

The inlays are part of the company’s Optica Food Solutions aiming to help food retailers and suppliers improve operational efficiency, enhance freshness and reduce waste. The proprietary antenna design and inlay construction are said to improve read performance on densely stacked items, particularly within high-moisture cold environments like meat cases.

Apparently, the new series uses Impinj’s M800 series endpoint integrated circuits (ICs) which, when combined with the Gen2X enhancement, further improve readability and speed. The compact inlay form factor is designed to fit easily within existing label formats for ‘seamless integration’ with current workflows and labelling equipment, minimizing operational disruption.

Avery Dennison adds that the IdentiFresh inlay series allows both in-store and supplier tagging of fresh food items, offering flexibility and high-volume scalability.

We recently reported on new data from Avery Dennison which indicates that food waste will cost businesses a total of $540 billion (€462,099,299,760) in 2026, with insufficient supply chain visibility playing a major role. Food waste costs are thought to reach 33% of total revenues in the food retail supply chain every year on average, from post-farm to the point of sale.

Earlier this month Checkpoint Systems announced SFERO RFID Checkout, the ‘first’ Electronic Article Surveillance antenna (EAS) integrated into the checkout lane and designed primarily for grocery and CPG retailers. It is said to enable precise identification of RFID-tagged items in the event of a theft attempt, delivering granular traceability and faster response from store staff.
