Ahlstrom

Ahlstrom has revealed its Acti-V RRF Natural fibre-based liner for double-sided tapes, said to enable recyclability even when silicone coated on both sides.

Designed for use with double-sided Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) tapes, Ahlstrom says the new liner has a Recyclable with Paper recyclability rating, utilising both recycled and unbleached fibres. The company adds that Acti-V RRF Natural aims to address challenges such as liners that are typically high-density supercalendered papers silicone-coated on both sides, which can be difficult to recycle into new pulp and paper products.

The liner has apparently been measured with the CEPI Recyclability Test Method, and the unbleached fibre mix is said to deliver higher mechanical robustness, enabling the use of reduced paper basis weight without loss of performance.

Ahlstrom states that the liner reduces the carbon footprint by over 25% compared to standard ActiV Industrial liners, due to the option to use lighter liner weight. The new RRF formulation incorporates at least 15% PCR fibres and contains no dyes.

In similar news, Gluecom and Techlan partnered on a recycled release liner and adhesive solution for e-commerce packaging, said to reduce carbon emissions and delivery times. The liner comes in different formats - coils, pancakes, spools or bobbins - and can be cut to customer requirements.

Ahead of last year’s Sustainability Awards we heard from Adam Robinson, head of Sustainability for BU Paper at Coveris, about its ReCover Paper facility, able to process paper-to-paper recycling for self-adhesive label release liners. The technology separates label facestock from release liners for maximum material recovery, enabling both components to be recycled in their own streams.
