PAPACKS SA interview

PAPACKS is a finalist in this year’s Sustainability Awards with its moulded Fiber Bottle, said to be recyclable and aiming to offer a scalable, patented alternative to plastic bottles for products such as dietary supplements. We spoke with the company to find out more about this innovation.

You’re a finalist in the Sustainability Awards 2025. Congratulations! To start off, could you summarize your entry, in less than 50 words?

The Fiber-Bottle is a fully recyclable, plastic-free moulded fibre bottle with an integrated screw thread and optional plant-based barrier coating (OTR/WVTR). Suitable for liquids and non-liquids like dietary supplements, it offers a scalable, patented alternative to plastic bottles for global mass production.

Why do you think the judges were impressed with your entry? Tell us about what is innovative about your project and/or about its impact on packaging sustainability.

The Fiber-Bottle eliminates plastic entirely, including the closure, without compromising on product protection. Its single-piece moulded fibre design, recyclability, and optional plant-based barrier coating make it suitable for both liquid and non-liquid products.

It reduces CO2 emissions and fits seamlessly into existing paper recycling streams. The innovation scales from 25 million to over 100 million units annually, enabling brands to meet sustainability targets and regulatory requirements while delivering high-performance packaging.

Finally, can you tell us about the ongoing development of your project, e.g. how your innovation/initiative has been received by the industry, or what the next steps are in commercialization/product development?

Following its recognition at the Sustainability Awards as well as a WorldStar Award and a Shop Award, PAPACKS’ Fiber-Bottle has received strong interest from the pharmaceutical, health, and food industries. Pilot production lines are operational, and full-scale facilities are planned globally via our PAPACKS Licensing program.

Next steps include expanding production capacities through PAPACKS Gigafactories and collaborating with major brands to replace plastic bottles worldwide.

The winners of the Sustainability Awards 2025 will be announced at the Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place in Utrecht on 10-12 November. The Summit mobilizes leaders of the FMCG value chain, policymakers, NGOs, recyclers and investors to collaborate, remove barriers and identify opportunities on the road to sustainable transformation.
