Xaar recently launched the Black version of its Versatex printbar at interpack 2026, said to bring high-definition black 1D and 2D variable data printing to existing analogue label presses and finishing lines.

The Versatex Black is designed to give label converters the reliability, clarity and high-speed needed to add production-ready codes and variable data to existing analogue presses without disrupting established workflows. Xaar says the new printbar delivers precise 1D and 2D barcode and human readable code printing, supporting applications such as serialization, personalization, authentication codes and supply chain tracking.

Versatex aims to ensure that every label or package can carry unique, supply chain-ready information through real-time data printing, supporting stronger compliance and enhanced brand protection. Combining Xaar’s High Laydown capability with TF Technology, Versatex Black is said to have ‘stable and consistent’ jetting of black inks even at high speeds, resulting in clear, high-contrast codes that remain robust across a range of substrates and production conditions, supporting reliable scanning and long-term durability.

Xaar adds that it has become a GS1 UK approved partner, confirming that the Versatex Black can deliver high-quality GS1-compliant barcodes at production speeds and that customers’ coding solutions will be aligned with future regulatory requirements.

The company will also be highlighting advancements across its core platform, such as its B2C and B2B online web-to-print storefronts for managing diverse customer segments and automated workflow and production management tools to streamline operations.

Calbee has announced it is temporarily limiting its on-pack print for multiple potato chip, breakfast cereal and snack products to black and white ink as the Strait of Hormuz crisis limits access to raw materials. Products are set to transition into the new packaging in phases, with the transition expected to maintain a consistent product supply without impacting overall quality.
