Twinplast has developed a range of packaging solutions targeting growth in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, including custom products for storing and transporting blood and tissue samples and medicines.

The company says it is utilizing its in-house technical team and factory facilities to supply custom products for the storage and transportation of sensitive items including blood and tissue samples, medicines and pharmaceutical raw ingredients. Made from polypropylene due to its ‘durability and protective qualities’, the range of packaging includes solutions designed to secure vials, tubes, syringe tops and empty or full pouches.

Available with anti-microbial and anti-static additives, Twinplast states that each polypropylene container is biologically inert, non-toxic, and fully washable.

Tim Steer, commercial director at Twinplast, commented: “We see the pharmaceutical and medical industry as a major growth market in the coming years. Our corrugated polypropylene is ideal for the high technical demands of logistical operations in the sector, where items often need particular care and enhanced protection in storage and transportation. Not only is corrugated polypropylene sterilisable, it’s also chemical, grease and water resistant, reusable, recyclable and strong yet lightweight.”

Earlier this year, Bayer and PAPACKS teamed up to develop biodegradable, fibre-based packaging for consumer health brands like Aspirin, Bepanthen, and Claritin. The companies planned to use ‘responsible’ virgin fibres and PAPACKS’ moulded pulp technology to replace the products’ traditional plastic packaging.

Last month, Avery Dennison launched its AD Minidose U9XM Ultra High Frequency (UHF) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) high memory inlays and tags. Designed for the identification of pharmaceutical and healthcare items such as syringes and vials, the products hope to provide reliable access at any point in the supply chain, making tracking more efficient and dependable.
