Smurfit Westrock’s Food Contact Packaging team has collaborated with Biscuiteers to provide 3-ply and 5-ply cushion pads to protect deliveries, aiming to reduce the amount of biscuits broken in transit and improve customer satisfaction.
By incorporating cushion pads into their packaging, Biscuiteers says it can confidently ship orders knowing each biscuit is fully protected during transit. The company adds that improper packaging can turn a thoughtful gift into a disappointment for the recipient and the sender.
As the overall ‘unboxing experience’ is part of the gift, Biscuiteers says the addition of the cushion pads, said to be 100% recyclable, means every recipient’s first impression is a positive one.
Liliana Bonilla, head of purchasing at Biscuiteers, said: “Our biscuits are a labour of love, and it’s crucial that they arrive in the same perfect condition we send them in. Smurfit Westrock’s cushion pads have been a game-changer for us. Not only do they protect our biscuits during transit, but they also align with our sustainability values.”
In related news, Cascades launched its complete packaging solution for the egg market - Fresh GUARD EnVision – in June, aiming to enhance egg protection and optimize packaging operations. According to a study conducted by Cascades’ Research and Development centre, eggs are better protected compared to a 12-egg carton with a label, as tests show the new solution triples the packaging’s rigidity and doubles its stacking strength.
Also seeking to improve protection for deliveries in transit, Amazon and Mondi recently developed a paper-padded envelope with paper-based, shock-absorbent lining. The new design is set to replace plastic bubble wrap in Amazon’s paper envelopes.
