DuPont announces its DuPont Liveo Pharma Bottle Closures, one-piece stoppers and tubings made from silicone, which will complement its existing overmoulded assembly portfolio for biopharmaceutical applications.
The company says that its Liveo closure solutions are designed to seal threaded glass and plastic bottles and containers, which can be used for critical fluid transfer, media and buffer pooling and storage, and sample collection in biopharmaceutical and biotechnology processes.
The closures feature a one-piece silicone seal part, which is made from bio-medical grade, platinum-cured silicone elastomer and moulded with high-purity, platinum-cured silicone tubing. According to DuPont, this makes the product suitable for preventing leak and contamination risks.
In addition, the silicone seal part is manufactured and packed in a controlled environment at the company’s FDA-registered Healthcare Industries Materials Site (HIMS) in Michigan, USA. This site focuses on manufacturing silicone-based materials for pharmaceutical and medical applications.
The company adds that the closures can be sterilised by autoclave and gamma irradiation, allowing them to be used in aseptic environments.
Michele Vigliotti, regional marketing manager of EMEA at DuPont Healthcare, comments: “Adding a complementary range to the Liveo Pharma Overmolded Assemblies (OMA) line demonstrates our commitment to meeting customer requirements in terms of supply flexibility and broader portfolio solutions.
“The new pharma bottle closures deliver the same promises of product purity, performance, quality and reliability as the rest of our pharma product line.”
The Liveo Pharma Bottle Closures are currently available for GL45 and 38-430 neck bottles and containers, while the company’s silicone tubing is available in Shore A durometers of 50, 60 and 80. An external polypropylene cap is apparently supplied with the silicone closure assembly.
DuPont notes that it can accommodate a range of tubing lengths and diameters according to the end-user’s specific needs, with the number and dimensions of tubing prices moulded to the seal part determined by the closure size. Customers can also request customised tolerances to meet specific application requirements, according to the company.
The new closures from DuPont will be showcased at CBioPC in Nanjing, China, on the 11th and 12th of November; INTERPHEX in New York, USA, from the 19th to the 21st of October; and CPhl in Milan, Italy, from the 9th to the 11th of November.
