G. Mondini has trialled TIPA’s compostable films as liners for its paper-based packaging solutions for wet, chilled, frozen, and fresh food products.
According to the companies, the market-first partnership will see G. Mondini offer paper-based and fully compostable Paperseal packaging solutions optimised for food applications. The TIPA film will apparently act as a liner to create a barrier against oxygen, moisture and humidity.
The companies claim that the new packaging solution lined with TIPA films can be placed together into organic waste where this stream is available. For markets where compostable packaging is not accepted in organic waste streams, the companies add that the TIPA film can be separated from the board and home composted.
In addition, the compostable films and paper solutions reportedly carry food waste to compost in line with Italy’s regulatory regime that allows compostable plastics to be collected with organic waste. The companies say that the solution can help to divert non-recyclable waste, such as plastic contaminated by food, out of landfills.

Last year, TIPA unveiled T. LAM 608, a transparent laminate that the company says can be disposed of in home composting bins with certification from TUV OK Home Compost.
