Corplex has launched closed edge technology for its AkyPak range of reusable protective plastic packaging solutions, designed to increase safety and hygiene use while delivering durability.
AkyPak is a range of reusable protective plastic packaging solutions made from the company’s Correx material, created to meet the needs of high-demand industries. Corplex says the new technology closes the corrugated edges, protecting against common issues like contamination, tearing, delamination and significantly extends the life of the product.
AkyPak’s closed edge enhancement is engineered to withstand the challenges of heavy use, exposure to various handling processes and simplify cleaning. According to Corplex, whether using a quick brush, damp cloth or spray, the design supports efficient maintenance routines, avoiding water penetrating the fluting.

The snap flaps and tabs aim to help users assemble and disassemble packs quickly and easily in settings that demand fast packaging solutions, such as the cosmetics or electronics industries. The closed edges seek to offer a less abrasive edge for operators in industries that involve extensive manual interaction with packaging.
The company adds that the ‘safe and durable’ nature of the technology makes it suitable for the pharmaceutical market, and its easy-to-clean design adheres to hygiene standards for the food market. The sealed edges aim to aid applications such as fresh fish by combating contamination.
In related news, Corplex launched a new closed-loop recycling system in September, said to turn its polypropylene (PP) Correx boards and AkyPak packaging into new media. The printed Correx boards are shredded, washed and recycled into clean, high whiteness PP flakes which can be re-extruded into new boards.
Also in the protective packaging space, Twinplast claims to have developed a flame-retardant finish for its fluted sheets which provides enhanced fire protection for a wide range of packaging applications in transport, warehouse and industrial environments. The company states the treatment consists of halogen-free chemical additives which increase fire resistance without posing environmental or health risks.
