In honour of the festive season, Celebration Packaging has added red and green double-wall hot drink cups to its renewable food and drinks packaging lineup, highlighting their compostability or recyclability at end-of-life.

Available in 8oz and 12oz sizes, the cups are made from FSC-certified paper and lined with a PLA plant starch moisture barrier. They are designed to insulate hot drinks while fitting comfortably into a consumer’s hand.

According to Celebration Packaging, the cups – which fall under the EnviroWare range of food and drink packaging made of natural, renewable materials – are certified as recyclable in standard paper mills or commercially compostable in line with DIN EN 13432:2000-12.

Optional sipper domed lids made of CPLA and bagasse are also available to customers.

“New for Christmas 2024, these new designs are perfect for serving up festive takeaway hot drinks,” says Nick Burton, managing director at Celebration Packaging. “Customers can choose from classic Holly Green and vibrant Santa Claus Red colours with white Christmas icons.

“These new Christmas cups are launched under our EnviroWare brand, so it’s no surprise that alongside the fun festive design, they also score high for sustainability.

“When we created the EnviroWare brand, over 17 years ago, our declared mission was to seek out more sustainable packaging solutions. We have always believed that when sourcing sustainable packaging, the provenance of the raw materials is paramount – but ensuring that it can be properly disposed of at its end-of-life is equally important.

“Celebration Packaging has always invested in accreditations and certifications which we take very seriously, so that when we make environmental and sustainability claims, we can always back them up. This sets us apart from many of our competitors, while also giving our customers confidence to help them on their sustainability journey.

“Through certification by respected and established companies, we can confirm that the products we sell are: suitable for direct contact with food and drink; made from sustainable resources where applicable; suitable for recycling and/or can be composted either industrially or at home.

“Hot drinks are takeaway best-sellers during the winter, so adding some festive cheer, while at the same time making a sustainable choice, is really heart-warming.”

This development follows Celebration Packaging’s release of tamper-evident containers featuring 30% recycled PET. This solution is designed to protect sandwiches, salad, and deli food while unlocking recyclability and avoiding plastic packaging taxes.

In Christmas news, Nestlé has debuted its 2024 lineup of personalized gift pouches, limited-edition tin and cracker designs, and a pick-and-mix refill option exclusive to John Lewis shoppers.

Other renewable cups unveiled this year include eGreen’s VeriGreen range, which utilizes biobased polypropylene and recycled plant oil from the hospitality industry; and compostable cups for cold beverages trialled by Huhtamaki and Starbucks, made of double-walled paperboard cups with a bioplastic liner and moulded fibre lids.
