ULMA Packaging has revealed TSA 400, an automatic traysealer for low-to-medium production environments; it is designed for easy integration and operation, high production performance, and energy efficiency in a range of packaging applications.
Reportedly, the machine supports a range of sealing techniques, including Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), as well as vacuum and skin applications. It can be used for single-line or double-line sealing, meaning it can be used for different tray and film materials while maintaining its precision.
With its IP65 protection rating and tool-free belt disassembly, it is designed for hygiene. Its surfaces are apparently easy to clean in line with strict hygiene standards, so it can be used for sensitive packaging environments, including food.
ULMA Packaging says its traysealer combines ‘robust’ construction with ‘advanced’ sealing force mechanisms to ensure ‘reliable’ packaging integrity. Its ‘streamlined’ design features an optional centralized lubrication system to simplify both operation and cleaning while cutting down on maintenance costs.
Its advanced servomotor technology is also used for precise die lifting and tray positioning, which supports easy format change – and, according to ULMA, leads to ‘optimal’ output rates of up to 23 cycles per minute.
Described as Industry 4.0-ready, its 7-inch touchscreen control panel comes with multi-level access and functional features, including maintenance alerts and ethernet connectivity – apparently enabling ‘smooth’ system integration and data management. This design is expected to maximize efficiency across production lines by reducing downtime.
The machine can also be customized to adapt to different production needs. Options include tray denesters, various infeed conveyors, metal detectors, and coding and printing systems.

In other news, GEA’s PowerPak 1000 thermoformer machine aims to replace traditional solutions like traysealers and vacuum chamber machines. The ‘entry-level’ machine produces MAP, vacuum, or skin packs for meat, meat substitutes, poultry, and cheese.
Meanwhile, Ravenwood has updated its VXR vision pack inspection system with seal detection software. It is believed to prevent financial loss, product recalls, and heavy fines by carrying out standard product contamination checks and seal contamination detection with ‘100% accuracy’.
