Whether it’s Cory Connors telling us everything we need to know about sustainable packaging, or Packaging Europe’s very own weekly interview series with leading experts, packaging-related podcasts are taking over. In this interview, we caught up with Daniel Willock to learn more about his brand-new podcast project.

What inspired you to launch this new podcast?

We noticed that content trends are often missed within the industry because of the lack of energy and excitement around the products itself. After a few viral posts we did last year, taking trends from platforms like TikTok and YouTube, we found that the latest and most popular was doing a podcast.

Why podcasts? What do you think this format can do that others can’t?

Podcasts are a great way to reach out to people with entertaining content and show who you are, what your personality is like, and put forward someone light-hearted entertaining content that somewhat relates back to packaging.

We found that listening to the current webinars and podcasts that are doing something similar are very low productions and education-focused, which can sometimes be hard to listen to. That’s where we stand out, we talk about anything and everything, whilst also plugging educational content wherever we feel necessary.

What are some of the key trends or challenges in the industry that you hope to address in the podcast?

Our first key trend is on waste reduction within packaging, EPR is just around the corner and could be costing businesses a substantial amount.

We also dip in and out of other aspects of operations, customer experience, business and marketing. The idea being to provide businesses with an easy listening experience that has insightful and important points made.

The picture it paints in our minds is for people in the industry like operations managers to take their work home with them, listening to a fun casual podcast which is also still based around their work that they can gain valuable knowledge from.

We didn’t want to create something that people felt they had to sit down and study too, instead we wanted to create a piece of content that someone can listen to on their way to work and enjoy.

What kinds of guests will you be talking to on the podcast?

We have a whole bunch of ideas for guests on the podcast, from packaging experts to business owners and even end users. Maybe 2025 will bring in some celebs to see what their thoughts are on open-box experiences!

In summary, we really just want to lighten up the packaging industry with fun, educational, exciting and inspiring conversations – with the aim to educate whilst entertaining.

We’ve already had a great response on multiple platforms, within 2 weeks! So, we’re really excited to see what the future holds for Big Fish (me) and Little Fish (Josh).
