Ekoroll has developed a disposable and biodegradable paper ashtray, intended to simplify cleaning operations for outdoor hospitality while meeting waste reduction requirements.
Cigarette litter is one of the most common operational and environmental challenges in outdoor hospitality environments, according to Ekoroll. While reusable plastic or glass ashtrays are the conventional solution, these require washing, redistribution, and monitoring – and raise cross-use hygiene concerns, the company adds.
Ekoroll’s disposable paper ashtray is designed to serve as a safe, visible, and controlled disposal point where reusable ashtrays are impractical. It undergoes a distribute-use-disposal cycle in a bid to reduce litter, improve hygiene standards, and simplify collection processes in high-volume outdoor service areas.
Described as plastic-free and biodegradable, the paper ashtray features an integrated, sand-based absorbent core to ensure that cigarettes are extinguished safely. Its thick, reinforced body and resistant coating for water and grease are set to improve its performance.
Apparently, a biodegradable tray will help businesses align with responsible procurement and waste reduction initiatives. It is said to be easily disposed of after use, which is anticipated to streamline cleaning operations and improve efficiency in high-traffic areas.
The product is available in smaller-scale procurement and bulk wholesale distribution, with a lightweight stackable design enabling larger orders. The product structure is said to support flexible supply models without compromising on quality standards.
Ekoroll recommends its paper ashtray for distributors, suppliers, businesses and venues in the HORECA sector, among other high-traffic environments. Examples include municipal public smoking zones, corporate hospitality venues, hotel terraces and smoking areas, beach clubs or coastal cafés, festivals and open-air events. The ashtrays can also be used for private events and gatherings.
Additionally, Ekoroll offers private label production and custom logo printing options for bulk wholesale orders.
This time last year, Contempo Specialty Packaging made its own contribution to sustainability-minded smoking operations – the ‘world’s first’ child-resistant and plastic-free cigarette box for cannabis pre-rolls. It is designed to incorporate recycled paperboard and FSC-certified boards into the packaging while maintaining enough durability to keep children from accessing the cigarettes.
In other news, Mother of Pearl Vodka has announced that it will serve drinks in Frugalpac’s paper bottles during live events at Suncorp Stadium. These will include concerts by Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, and ACDC, with an eventual aim to serve low-carbon wine and spirit bottles at the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.
