AstroNova GmbH will be unveiling a new solution that enables AstroNova printers to digitally print food-friendly, heat-sealable, flexible packaging materials.

Designed to work perfectly with TrojanLabel presses, this new digital, narrow-format solution can be used in either a standalone printing mode or in-line with standard packaging equipment for a complete “print and pack” process. The combination of the unique ink and lamination offers a food-friendly packaging solution that allows users to seal in both horizontal and vertical form fill and seal machines using low temperatures for high-speed sealing.
Going digital will easily allow flexible packaging printers to produce short- to mid-level packaging runs on demand. This feature includes the ability to print barcodes and variable data, with the precise registration that is expected from TrojanLabel presses. This printing solution can easily be expanded to include a wide array of product packaging, offering the ability to produce the exact number of custom-printed packages needed.
The unique, ultra-thin, white gloss PET film was specifically developed to be receptive to AstroNova’s water-based inkjet inks. The inner transparent sealing layer of the film protects food products from coming into contact with the outer layer. The water-based inks used are food-friendly, odourless, and free of reactive chemistries, making them safer than other inks available on the market today. The inks are in compliance with several US, European and Japanese standards.The solution is ideal for printing flow pack pouches that are used to pack easily-damaged content such as confectionary, crisps or fragile products. Diverse applications in the field of individualised products for hotels, cosmetics, advertising materials, contract packagers, industry, chemistry and retail.
