As announced at Fachpack 2024, Wentus has been fully integrated into Trioworld, with the merger set to create a ‘powerful force’ in Europe’s flexible packaging sector.

The original Trioworld specializes in flexible films for transport, industry, hygiene and healthcare, agriculture, and waste management, as well as a particular focus on the food sector in its consumer packaging. It consists of over 2,000 employees across production and recycling sites in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, and reports a current turnover of €1 billion.

As its Trioworld Loop products seek to reduce plastic film consumption while driving cost efficiency, its post-consumer recyclate (PCR) films claim to match the performance of virgin alternatives. While its Katan-Ex Loop30 stretch film contains 30% PCR, its Stretch Hood Loop70 film contains 70%; both claim to help users reduce their carbon footprint compared to virgin alternatives.

Apparently, Stretch Hood Loop 70 maintains the same stretchability and holding force as virgin stretch hoods. It also claims to provide load stability and support palletized goods in transit via ‘efficient’ material use.

Trioworld Höxter has also partnered with Saperatec to utilize its method for separating composite packaging and recovering pure, adhesion-free post-consumer polyethylene – extruding the recovered material at its Höxter facility. In doing so, it claims to align with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

Back in July, Trioworld’s plastic packaging for wet wipes, which incorporates recycled materials from beverage cartons and 35% post-consumer recycled LDPE, received a German Packaging Award from the German Packaging Institute. The same design was displayed at Trioworld’s Fachpack stand.

The pack is believed to be the first of its kind in Germany to recycle plastic film from beverage cartons. Trioworld says it can be fully recycled via existing packaging waste collection systems, and that the design aligns with its commitments to sustainability and future regulatory requirements.

Now Trioworld is making ‘major investments’ to expand its production capacity in the recycling area, an approach expected to increase the company’s PCR-based flexible packaging offerings. As part of the merger, it will integrate Wentus’ mono-material solutions and skin films into its lineup.

This will include the WENTOPRO flexible film range, including the SkinTight range of premium skin films for fresh meat, fish, poultry, and more. Due to their lower processing temperatures and the reduction in plastic used overall, these solutions are believed to cut down on energy consumption.

Christof Renz, managing director at Wentus, continued: “As part of the integration, Trioworld will invest more than 10 million Euros into expanding Wentus’ Höxter facility by installing five additional extruders and an eight-colour printing press, with the goal of doubling output and creating a platform for significant growth in the DACH region. This strategic investment will allow Trioworld to better serve its customers in the region while driving innovation and growth.”

As part of the merger, Wentus will officially change its name to Trioworld.
