Nowadays, more and more skin packaging is conquering the shelves at retail. The advantages of this packaging system are obvious: safely and appetizingly sealed under vacuum, such products have a significantly longer shelf life and can now be presented even more attractive.
SEALPAC, supplier of modern tray-sealing and thermoforming technology, leads the market with its innovative TraySkin® system, which it was demonstrated on a SEALPAC A6 traysealer at interpack 2017.
TraySkin® – more freshness, improved quality and prolonged shelf life
By using SEALPAC’s TraySkin® system, food products are packaged directly inside their tray with a highly transparent barrier skin film, which fits the contours of the product like a second skin. The secure fixation of the product always ensures a perfect appearance, even if presented vertically (e.g. standing or hanging). The skin film, perfectly matched to the application, ensures a reliable barrier. As such, thequality, consistency and colour of the product are maintained, resulting in optimal taste. For peeling away the skin film, consumer-friendly opening aids, such as peel tabs or SEALPAC’s EasyPeelPoint system, are available as an option. Whether meat, poultry, seafood or ready meals – TraySkin® is suitable for a wide range of fresh and frozen food items.
Two-compartment tray for single portions
A new development concerns the use of two-compartment skin trays, where each compartment is sealed individually. Sealing takes place by means of SEALPAC’s unique OnTrayCut system, which was specifically developed for skin applications.
This guarantees an immaculate presentation at retail, both from a visual and tactile point of view. Due to the perforation between the compartments, each portion can easily be separated from the other. If desired, SEALPAC’s EasyPeelPoint can be added to allow for easy opening of the skin pack. With this new tray, SEALPAC addresses the growing demand for efficient packaging of smaller portions of food, mainly coming from the increasing number of single households. By solving the common mismatch between the amount of food inside a tray compared to the actual need of the buyer, SEALPAC lives up to its goal as a member of the Save Food initiative: to continuously develop new packaging solutions that reduce food waste.
FlatSkin® – sustainable and appealing
At interpack 2017, SEALPAC attracted attention with another skin packaging development, which combines excellent optics with sustainability: FlatSkin®. Here, instead of the common plastic tray, a printed cardboard carrier is used that has been coated with a polymeric protective layer. After use, the layer is easily removed from the carrier to allow for separate disposal. As FlatSkin® uses a high degree ofrecyclable materials, the system convinces from an ecological point of view.
Furthermore, the cardboard allows for excellent printing, hence offering some unique branding opportunities. This makes FlatSkin® products a true eye-catcher at retail.
SEALPAC A6 traysealer – perfectly tuned to skin applications
Modern, attractive TraySkin® packs can be achieved on all of SEALPAC’s A-series traysealers. At Interpack 2017, the company will demonstrate its TraySkin® system on a SEALPAC A6 traysealer. This machine is ideal for medium-output applications that require highest flexibility. Its unique tooling quick exchange system, common to all A-series traysealers, allows for fast changeovers to other packaging systems or tray sizes.
