The investment in wide web digital printing and finishing is in full industrial operation at Mediaköket, a part of Flextrus and AR Packaging.

Having a technological setup which is unique in Europe, it has proven to be a big success. The sophisticated product offering is a strong addition to the group and meets the market needs, confirmed by a higher interest than expected from both smaller local companies and large multinational brand owners.

The capability to print on the full material and product range of Flextrus and AR Packaging, enables a width of opportunities for many applications. The technological setup is ideal for smaller orders to local food and healthcare companies as well as test launches and individual pack samples to larger brand owners.

“We are very happy to see the huge attention we have received from both existing and new customers”, says Maud Rahm, Managing Director for Mediaköket and Flextrus. “The different enquiries prove that we fill a gap in the market by improving flexibility and speed-to-market, two critical aspects for our customers in the ever increasing competition of shelf space in the supermarkets.”

The wider print press at Mediaköket is combined with a wide web finishing unit which can be used for special varnishes, lamination and slitting. The deliberate choice to use electron beam curing in combination with digitally printed flexible materials makes Mediaköket unique in Europe and provides a safe solution when it comes to environmental and food safety aspects.

“The Mediaköket equipment provides opportunities for truly exclusive pack design features without compromising flexibility and total cost efficiency”, says Ralf Mack, Business Development Manager at AR Packaging. “Many customers now explore the possibilities of using of variable data in the print design as well as special partial varnish features in register.”

Mats Winde, plant manager at Mediaköket, comments;  “The ebeam finishing makes it possible for us to complete an innovative packaging product in a highly efficient and validated way. Also, we have moved to a new facility adapted to meet high quality assurance and food safety requirements. Mediaköket is already certified for graphical production and will be certified according to FSSC 22000 in the coming months.”

“All in all, we now have a highly dedicated plant for providing not only digital printing and finishing but also expertise in print design and PMA (Print Management) services”, concludes Maud Rahm. “We look forward to supporting our customers in the on-going transition of their market and the technology shift in our industry.”

The width of opportunities with digital printing and services from Mediaköket will be demonstrated live at Interpack, 4-10 May in Düsseldorf, at the AR Packaging stand A38 in Hall 11.
