Beauty packaging manufacturer Quadpack announces new airless product portfolio, CANVAS Airless, which it says allows custom shapes with minimum lead time and reduced investment, while using 15% less plastic.

The innovation is aimed at cosmetics companies seeking to express their brand identities through packaging, while protecting their formulas with an airless system.

The company adds that the CANVAS Airless solution offers “never-before-seen” shapes in airless products. Using its patented bag-in-bottle technology, Quadpack has developed a proprietary airless container system with a collapsible pouch.

This bag-in-bottle technology is based on the bi-injection blow moulding technology acquired by Quadpack in 2019. The two-phase process, which was developed with its R&D partner Inotech, apparently lowers investment and reduces development time compared with bespoke piston airless packs.

Pre-forms are bi-injection moulded at Quadpack’s airless manufacturing centre in Germany, to be blown in a single pass in the desired shape. The pumps can be used at any 360o angle, while actuating the bulk with minimal waste – reportedly giving a restitution rate of 97%.

Pierre-Antoine Henry, head of market development at Quadpack, says: “CANVAS Airless provides a blank canvas for creative design.

“With one mould for infinite shapes, it enables greater freedom of expression. Brands can choose oval, square, convex, concave and other forms – and all without additional outlay or time delay.

“It sets the new standard in airless packaging, offering accessible added value, along with all the benefits of airless technology.”

According to Quadpack, the benefits of airless packaging include protecting formulas from external contamination while increasing shelf life.

In addition, CANVAS Airless allegedly uses 15% less plastic than piston airless equivalents and can be made with a choice of materials.

For example, the QLine range comes with an LLDPE pouch and PET outer bottle as standard, which it says are both recyclable materials. Current outer options include rPET and PETG, while inner options include surlyn.

Quadpack adds that further sustainable materials will be available in the future, while a metal-free pump and refill formats are both on its product development roadmap.

Going forward, Quadpack intends to stock the CANVAS Airless in all three of its key territories: EMEA, the Americas and Asia Pacific. It claims local brands will be able to use local supply for late differentiation and a reduced carbon footprint, as part of Quadpack’s QLine portfolio of smart, modular solutions delivered regionally.

Earlier this year, Quadpack unveiled a refillable version of its airless dispenser range, Regula Airless. This apparently allows consumers to easily remove or insert a new refill, representing another product by Quadpack that provides innovative and sustainable solutions to the personal care market.

CANVSAS Airless will be commercially available from January 2022.
