DS Smith’s Recyclability Evaluation Service (RES) aims to offer a detailed assessment of the recyclability of fibre-based packaging, particularly in regard to primary or consumer-based packaging.
Customers send a sample of any fibre-based product - from anywhere across Europe - and DS Smith tests it in its laboratory at Kemsley Paper Mill. The tests evaluate the sample’s recyclability to determine how recyclable it could be in standard paper mills across Europe.
DS Smith says that this approach is grounded in state-of-the-art methodologies, including the CEPI Harmonised Test Methodology and the 4evergreen Recyclability Evaluation Protocol. After testing is complete, customers receive a report and recyclability score ranging from -100 to +100.
With this solution, DS Smith seeks to offer insights, not just test results. It aims to develop future-proof solutions, in a bid to improve the sustainability credentials of customers’ products and reduce future regulatory costs.
DS Smith is experienced in helping major global brands get fibre-based packaging safely and successfully to market. It has a strong understanding of evolving legislation, changing industry standards and best practice.
