Based on numerous automation and IT standards and offering the option to pre-process data internally, Rexroth’s new PLC system ILC makes integrating machines into the Internet of Things (IoT) easier. Smart engineering tools speed up the execution of both straightforward and complex automation tasks for machine manufacturers and system integrators.

Rexroth’s programmable logic controls are used all around the world, primarily in the automobile industry, in assembly and handling applications and in building automation. Rexroth’s PLC system ILC features the first PLC system software designed to fully meet the requirements of the Internet of Things. It is based on the standardized languages of IEC 61131-3. Users can also independently program functions in high-level languages which directly access the control hardware.

The ILC connects machines and systems with around 20 automation and IT protocols to higher-level IoT systems. It also provides the collected data and information on the basis of established standards such as OPC UA and MQTT. No additional interfaces need to be programmed. This significantly reduces the workload involved in IoT integration.

The ILC uses simple engineering. It includes predefined functional blocks which users can compile to form complete motion sequences at the click of a mouse. The further developed Generic Application Template with automatic PLC code generation logically guides users to help them create automation tasks. Users can also use Bosch’s Nexeed Automation platform. Its modular engineering approach enables users to implement automation projects easily and cost-effectively. Nexeed Automation also provides machine operators with apps and assistance systems which support them with diagnoses and troubleshooting throughout the system’s entire life cycle. The new PLC system is fully backwards-compatible with older Rexroth PLC solutions and can be combined with the CNC system solution MTX and the motion control system MLC without any restrictions.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of drive and control technologies, Bosch Rexroth ensures efficient, powerful and safe movement in machines and systems of any size. The company bundles global application experience in the market segments of Mobile Applications, Machinery Applications and Engineering, and Factory Automation.

With its intelligent components, customized system solutions and services, Bosch Rexroth is creating the necessary environment for fully connected applications. Bosch Rexroth offers its customers hydraulics, electric drive and control technology, gear technology and linear motion and assembly technology, including software and interfaces to the Internet of Things. With locations in over 80 countries, more than 30,500 associates generated sales revenue of 5.5 billion euros in 2017.
