The environmental label Cradle to Cradle follows the concept to certify products that can feed back into biological or technical cycles when their life cycle has come to an end. With regard to print production, finished print products will either be recycled or introduced into the biological cycle as compostable waste.

The printing ink manufacturer hubergroup has developed a wide range of products that has been tested and approved according to the Cradle to Cradle standards. In order to obtain this certification, the independent environmental institute EPEA assessed the ink manufacturing process with regard to its eco-management relating to responsible handling of energy and water resources, and hubergroup’s corporate social responsibility.

The assessed and approved printing inks are based on renewable vegetable oils, are formulated cobalt-free and meet the deinkability criteria in line with test method INGEDE 11 along with the specifications of the European Recovered Paper Council (ERPC). The portfolio includes process and special colour inks for conventional offset printing.

"Our printing inks, certified according to Cradle to Cradle, enable the printing company to produce ecologically optimized print products", emphasizes Bernd Groh, Head of Product Management for Commercial Sheetfed Inks Europe at hubergroup Deutschland GmbH. “With this offer, we are enabling our customers to enter new markets, as the demand for print products with a small ecological footprint is increasing.”
