Technological innovation is the key to provide a personalised and functional response to convenience or comfort criteria that prevail in the purchase decision of the final consumer. This was one of the axes of the last day of MeetingPack2017, where trends in packages allowing the development of more natural and healthy products with sensory quality were also stressed, which took into account the food waste reduction and the respect for the environment.

Thus, MeetingPack Convenience: Driving Barrier Packaging Innovation is consolidated as the unique international meeting on packaging systems and barrier packaging offering global solutions to professionals. In this edition, the attendees knew the last technological innovations on: easy-open products; ready-to-eat designs; re-closable, more ergonomic and manageable packages, biodegradable packages, among others.

International meeting point of the entire value chain

In its third edition, MeetingPack, organised by AIMPLAS and AINIA, brought together for two days more than 30 speakers and 300 international professionals belonging to big multinationals from the food sector, packaging, materials and packaging equipment manufacturers, as well as representatives from the retail industry, public bodies, experts in food legislation and technologists, who tackled the great challenges of food packaging: high-pressure packaging systems that require less preservatives to extend the shelf life of food, vacuum packages that provide a high protection to food, packages with modified atmosphere that avoid the formation of mould and bacteria and keep the original colour of meat products, packages for healthier menus to minimise the food disposal, etc.

Moreover, different solutions were tackled, such as how to deal with active packaging manufacturing and solutions in the field of packaging technologies and food disposal; new solutions on raw materials to produce packages; flexible packages, extension of shelf life, new manufacturing and packaging systems; additive manufacturing and 3D printing; Industry 4.0; active and smart packaging; sustainable packages (bioplastics, recycling), etc.

MeetingPack2017 had as partners: the Regional Government of Education, Culture and Sport; the Valencian Institute of Business Competitivity (IVACE) and the European Regional Development Funds; as well as Caixabank, TER Plastics Polymer Group, Mitsubishi Chemical, Schur, Gomensoro, Systech Illinois, Tecnocaucho, Polyram Group, ANAIP, MESbook, Comexi, UBE, Ampacet, Plásticos Romero, Repsol, TPL, Mocon, Ermec, WITT, EHEDG and Hiperbaric. This international meeting of the entire plastics and food value chain has been possible thanks to the joint effort of the technology centres AINIA and AIMPLAS.
