Velteko has announced its new vertical packaging machine for operations requiring higher standards of hygiene and sanitation, apparently packing up to 160 bags per minute.

The VELTEKO WASHDOWN-360 vertical packaging machine has a IP69K certification, meaning it can be cleaned using pressure washing. The company says it can be used in operations with more stringent hygiene requirements and anywhere that liquids need to be packaged. 

This particularly includes the food industry – such as for the packaging of frozen food, meat, fish or sauces – and other operations where liquid or semi-liquid products are packaged in conditions requiring higher standards of cleanliness.  

The machine is said to be waterproof and designed to be easy to wash and clean off product residues, dust, grease and bacteria. Velteko adds that it is resistant to cleaning chemicals, water runs off the surface faster, and its hygienic design significantly shortens the sanitizing process. 

The machine can reportedly pack up to 160 bags per minute and can handle large, fragile or liquid products. The maximum volume per packed bag is up to 20 litres, and the maximum width of the bag seam is 360 mm. 

Tomáš Šmíd from VELTEKO’s development department described the construction of the machine: “We designed the VELTEKO WASHDOWN series to ensure that there are no hard-to-clean spots, such as corners or depressions where liquids can accumulate and bacteria can multiply. The machine also has a minimum of large horizontal surfaces in which water can accumulate.” 

Recently, ValTara unveiled its Breezy Wrapper, which combines the horizontal flow wrapping and vertical bagging of trays and containers into one machine and automatically adjusts films to the product’s length. The machine is recommended for use in institutional packaging, school and home-delivered meal kits, fruits, vegetables, snack foods, baked goods, home goods, and hardware. 

Last month SIG introduced its new filling system for pre-made, spouted aseptic pouches, designed for in-line pouch sterilization, a simplified supply chain, and lower production costs. It aims to negate the need for third-party pre-sterilization of spouted pouches.
