TOMRA has introduced TOMRA B7, the first TriSort reverse vending machine (RVM) in its Basic Line, designed to make drink container recycling more accessible and efficient for small businesses and markets new to deposit return schemes (DRSs).
The TOMRA B7 reverse vending machine can accept up to three types of containers including PET, cans, glass bottles and refillable bottles. The new machine has a footprint of 1.3 sqm, designed to fit into any retail environment.
TOMRA states the 21.5” touch display provides intuitive user guidance with video and sound capabilities. Powered by TOMRA Essential Technology, the machine offers container recognition, weight detection, metal detection, 360° barcode reading, and 2D barcode reading, aiming to ensure precise and secure processing of returned beverage containers.
The machine’s on-screen instructions and customizable user interface seek to make the recycling process easy for users. It also has a ‘plug-and-play’ functionality for retailers to start recycling operations with minimal set-up time.
Apparently, the TOMRA B7 will debut first in the Polish market and is adaptable to various deposit return schemes, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
The announcement of the new machine follows the launch of TOMRA’s Basic Line last year, aimed at stores new to DRS systems and hoping to offer a simple way for retailers to start collecting empty beverage containers for recycling while saving space and resources. The Line utilizes TOMRA Essential Technology for 360° barcode scanning, an integrated camera, and precise weight and metal sensors to recognize various objects and brands and ensure accurate refunds.
Also in 2024, the company revealed its TOMRA R2 reverse vending machine, along with plans to offer multi-feed returns at smaller retail venues and allow consumers to convert their deposit refunds into digital vouchers or donate them to charity. While the expanded donation function debuted on the TOMRA R2, the company anticipates its implementation into its other RVMs in the future.
