Colpac is rolling out a multi-purpose food packaging solution that can be used as single dine-in trays or locked together into a box to-go, targeting flexibility, convenience, and space optimization for food vendors.
The Tower Trays are safe for use with hot or ambient dishes (e.g. burgers, fries, or loaded nachos) from Quick Service Restaurants, street food vendors, or event catering companies.
Aspiring for simplicity and functionality, the trays’ wide apertures enable them to be filled as standalone trays back-of-house and served on-site or handed to consumers. Alternatively, they can be interlocked to form a base and lid, coming with closures that can be secured ‘in seconds’.
This dual purpose is expected to benefit foodservice providers with limited storage back-of-house, saving space by nesting in transport and storage and reducing the required SKUs. Colpac also claims that the packs are made from FSC-certified, recyclable, and compostable paperboard containing recycled material.
Four sizes are available across square and rectangular formats, with medium and large tray depths for each shape – thus providing flexibility for different foods. The square Tower Trays provide comparable dimensions to a traditional clamshell, while the rectangular versions are geared towards pies, chips, fries, and other larger dishes.
Additionally, the trays’ ‘unique silhouette’ is set to distinguish the trays on the market. Sports stadiums and high-end burger chains have reportedly expressed early interest in the Tower Trays solution.
“We are excited to launch our newly designed Tower Trays into the market as part of our ongoing product development programme,” says Kate Berry, head of Marketing and Product. “The new formats offer flexibility across usages and configurations, making them a multi-functional packaging solution.”
In other news, Colpac recently expanded its Stagione range with Stagione Light, a new line of paperboard food packaging for hot and chilled dishes. Manufactured from one piece of cardboard, the Light pack is intended as a lighter product made from FSC-certified paperboard.
Ravenwood’s linerless recessed cartonboard trays with removable plastic lids, released last month, are geared towards food-to-go retailers. They are designed for easy stacking and storage in a bid to unlock easy packaging processes for factory and supermarket staff alike.
Yangi has also utilized its Cellera dry-forming technology to create a fibre-based food tray for ready meals, meat products, and takeaway options. Apparently, it is made from 100% renewable FSC fibres and can be recycled in existing paper waste streams globally.
