Berry Global’s flexible films division has unveiled its new Bontite Sustane Stretch Film with 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, said to be recyclable post-use where PE film collections exist.

Berry says its Bontite range of blown stretch films offers ‘exceptional holding force’ to secure palletized goods throughout transit. The company adds that the films provide strength, puncture resistance and load stability for various industries including logistics, food and beverage, construction, retail, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce.

The range includes films made from virgin materials as well as various types of recycled plastic. By integrating post-consumer recycled content for the latest film, the company hopes to reduce the reliance on virgin plastic.

Gabrielle Ditsch, sales director at Berry Global’s European Flexible Films business, said: “Our new Bontite Sustane Stretch Film incorporating 30% PCR content demonstrates Berry’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. By incorporating PCR, we can help to reduce the environmental impact of packaging while delivering an effective solution that safeguards products, reduces waste, and supports circular economy goals.”

Berry recently supplied dry mortar specialist Marlon with its 30% post-consumer recycled NorDiVent Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) film to support the company’s goals of reducing its carbon footprint, boosting energy efficiency, and encouraging responsible sourcing. The collaboration aims to transition away from NorDiVent bags made from 100% virgin plastic and into a 30% PCR version, said to successfully downgauge by 7% without sacrificing the pack’s strength characteristics.

Berry also developed a PCR bottle and cap solution for ‘eco-friendly’ performance lubricants manufacturer Green Oil. Apparently, the closure was manufactured using a non-carbon black masterbatch and can be recycled at its end of life in countries where the appropriate recycling infrastructure exists.
