If fish need to be readied for transport on board, the packaging process has to run smoothly. To ensure that the lid sits correctly on the PVC or polystyrene crate containing the fresh catch, plastic straps are used to secure the box – safety and hygiene are the main priorities here.

This also holds true for all other production environments in coastal areas, where strapping technology can easily be used. At booth 4-5844 at the Seafood Expo Global in Brussels from April 24 to 26, Mosca GmbH will present its new strapping machine, the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA, which has been specially designed for use in adverse conditions and in small spaces. The corrosion-resistant stainless-steel machine features a side-mounted ultrasonic unit, making it particularly suitable for sealing polystyrene food boxes. If necessary, the unit can easily be integrated into fully automated processes. The EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA, a tabletop model, will also be on display at the booth.

The annual Seafood Expo Global in Brussels is one of the fishing industry’s largest international trade fairs. Last year the event attracted 28,500 visitors from all segments of the process chain – including load securing – presenting the perfect audience for stainless-steel strapping machines like Mosca’s new EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA. The strapping expert offers numerous advantages to its customers from the food industry, including efficient processes and superlative hygiene standards thanks to the use of high-grade stainless steel.

Solid and efficient: the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA ensures that the fresh catch can be safely packed at sea, ready for transport. The machine automatically straps the lid onto the fish-filled container with a plastic strap – or with two straps if needed. As a result, the cargo is quickly, hygienically and securely prepared for the next stage of its journey. The machine is also ideally suited for use in coastal regions. “The often adverse conditions in fish processing place particular demands on the machinery – and they’re very different than those in dry production facilities,” explains Timo Mosca, Managing Director of Mosca. “Our machine performs its task quickly, whatever the conditions, and is easy to use, even in small spaces, delivering the highest hygienic standards, reliability and quality for our customers.”

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is made to meet the demands of the fishing industry: All the components, like the motors, springs and bearings are made of stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion by saltwater. “We build our machines using the highest economically viable grade of stainless steel,” says Timo Mosca.

The electronically self-calibrating SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit is the heart of the machine. The patented ultrasonic technology seals the band ends without producing melting residues or noxious odors. In addition, there is no warm-up phase, so no energy is wasted. And since the unit is positioned at the side of the strap guide frame, it doesn’t become contaminated by falling debris like polystyrene particles from the boxes, or by ice or food. The machine also features the new Standard-6 strap path. Thanks to the modular design, it can be dismantled and reassembled in a matter of seconds and without the need for tools – which makes cleaning and maintenance child’s play. How the corrosion-resistant sealing unit functions under adverse conditions can be seen live at the Mosca “Aquarium” at the booth, where it will be in operation while completely submerged – without any effect on its reliability. In normal use, the entire stainless-steel machine can simply be cleaned with a jet of water.

Tailored to customers’ needs

The machine is designed for seamless and efficient integration into customers’ production processes. Equipped with the company’s corrosion-resistant conveying system, which consists of plastic chains in a stainless-steel frame, it can be easily added to fully automated processing lines. In continuous operation, up to 52 straps can be applied per minute, and the continuously adjustable strap tension ensures that products can be quickly processed. The optional fully automated double strap dispenser increases efficiency: when a strap coil runs out, the machine automatically switches to the next coil, reducing changing times by roughly 80 percent and delivering continuous production without the need for manual coil changing. On request the strapping unit can also be equipped with a hold-down device and side compactor, allowing it to optimally secure lids and to move the bundle to the strapping level. To run the machine, operators use the easy-to-reach, intuitive control panel.

Your reliable partner for securing foodstuffs

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA is a tabletop model that stands out thanks to its corrosion-resistant stainless-steel components and uncomplicated handling. The operator moves the bundle into position manually, allowing him or her to complete up to 50 strappings per minute. For lighter workloads, the unit can simply be switched from maximum speed to eco-speed. Here, too, the tried and trusted, preinstalled SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit is used to seal the band ends. To allow operation in cramped spaces, the 360-degree rotating control panel can easily be used from either side of the unit. Given its flexibility and solid build quality, the EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA offers another ideal solution for reliably packaging and strapping food packages.
