On PPMA stand D10, Ilapak will launch the Delta 6000 3-Side Seal C (convertible) flow wrapper which is able to produce the two most commonly used, yet very different, pack formats – pillow bags and three side seal reclosable bags – on the same machine.
The system has been designed with unique dual sealing configurations to provide unrivalled pack presentation, 100% seal integrity and innovative reclosable pack features to help keep perishable fridge-foods fresher for longer. Factories can save floor space and reduce their capital spend by investing in a single horizontal form-fill-seal system for multiple pack styles.
Without a reclosable zipper or grip seal, packs of dairy and cooked meat products spoil quickly and are often thrown before completely consumed. The Delta 3SS C has been designed to help manufacturers produce multiple packs styles which keep food fresh for longer to prevent unnecessary food waste.
According to ILAPAK Sales and Marketing Director Tony McDonald, it’s the first flow wrapper to be designed with two different longitudinal sealing heads to create both pillow and reclosable style packs without compromising pack function or presentation. “It’s common for cheese and meat factories to use both pillow packs and new reclosable bags when packing foods,” comments Tony. “Historically, if a single flowwrapper was to create both pack styles it would use the same sealing element configuration, but this would often lead to wrinkles in the material due to excessive heat damage and compromise both the pack aesthetics and shelf-life of the product. Ilapak’s new Delta 6000 3SS C incorporates a sealing system dedicated to each pack style to improve pack quality and offer manufacturers a stable and efficient packing process,” adds Tony.
With the UK cheese market worth an estimated £2.8bn a year and the UK convenience food & grocery market forecast to reach £47.1bn by 2022 according to the Institute of Grocery Distribution Research, it’s imperative that foods with a high-spoil risk, such as grated cheese and sliced meats, are packed in reclosable packs.
