At FACHPACK 2024, H.B. Fuller is showcasing a portfolio of adhesives hoped to help unlock reduction, recycling, redesign, and renewability in various sealing and securing applications.

In the company’s view, its adhesives contribute to reductions in consumption, energy, carbon footprint, plastic use, oil migration, and food waste. For example, its Advantra Earthic 9500 adhesive for case and carton sealing applications is said to use at least 25% less adhesive than standard industry hot melt technology, and will be on display at FACHPACK.

It will be joined by the Advantra Low Temperature Carton Sealing range, which is set to lower customers’ energy consumption and carbon footprints.

Furthermore, the company’s adhesives are believed to separate easily in the repulping process and favour the washing of returnable bottles. The Earthic 4001 PET labelling adhesive for wrap-around labelling – which will make its own appearance at the trade show – is described as one such solution, washing off in caustic washing processes.

Reportedly, it is verified by PETCycle, Returpack, and Veolia throughout Europe.

H.B. Fuller’s Earthic 2023 will also be showcased as an ‘advanced’ water-based labelling technology with similar wash-off properties. It is recommended for use on returnable glass bottles.

For flexible packaging, H.B. Fuller will display the RecyClass-certified Flextra SBA 5250 + XA 3350. This solution is a solvent-based, two-component laminating adhesive that is free from epoxy silane and safe for food contact.

Apparently, it offers ‘excellent’ bonding for high-performance applications at low migration levels.

Alongside it is a range of H.B. Fuller’s e-commerce and consumer packaged goods. They are intended to boost efficiency, reduce time spent cleaning up, and improve the recyclability of PET solutions.

Regarding bio-sourced solutions, Advantra Earthic 9370 is a ‘near carbon neutral’ packaging adhesive. Like Advantra Earthic 9500, it is intended for case and carton sealing, but is reported to contain a ‘high share’ of circular and bio-circular raw materials.

Swift melt 1850 is designed to facilitate easy-peel and resealable e-commerce closing systems, enabling consumers to return products in the same box. Such a development is set to reduce e-retailers’ reliance on fossil fuels while improving consumer brand experience.

Additionally, H.B. Fuller is forming partnerships to design solutions for bundling multipack cans, bottles, and aseptic bottles with adhesive solutions; as well as palletizing adhesives for cartons and plastic applications. The latter is expected to negate the need for slip sheets, shrink wrap film, and other materials previously required to secure packages on pallets.

Experts from H.B. Fuller will be present at the company’s booth (Booth 4-244, Hall 4) to speak with attendees about the company’s pursuit of circularity and help customers find fitting solutions for their specifications.
