Specright has developed an automated Declaration of Conformity (DoC) reporting capability, designed to help companies quickly and easily source documents across workflows to comply with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.
The DoC is a legally binding self-declaration through which a company proves that its packaging complies with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)’s standards of recyclability, recycled content, reusability, substance restrictions, and more. From 12 August, businesses operating on the EU market must be able to produce a signed DoC on demand.
Specright’s new DoC capability aims to help brands bring together documentation spread across suppliers, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems. This ‘structured, audit-ready system of record’ uses the AI-powered Supplier Collaboration solution, which shares key data and avoids the time-consuming process of sourcing paperwork across company operations.
Under Specright’s system, every finished good includes a PPWR compliance tab that tracks readiness article by article, highlights missing data or supporting documents, and rolls up compliance status across every component. A guided workflow reportedly assembles the DoC and its full technical documentation dossier in ‘minutes’ – a capability expected to save time during the filing process.
“PPWR compliance can’t be an afterthought once enforcement begins, it has to be built into how companies manage their packaging data from day one,” said Karthik Rajagopal, chief product officer at Specright. “This capability gives brands a direct line from the specification data they already manage in Specright to a defensible, audit-ready Declaration of Conformity, replacing months of manual document chasing with a guided, systematic process.”

R-Cycle and TILISCO have also developed the PPWR Compliance Compass, a software-as-service-solution that uses AI-powered data capturing to extract and aggregate relevant packaging data from various sources – completing missing information with the help of specific supplier inquiries.
In other news, Kenvue is utilizing Resycure’s digital platform to unlock batch-level traceability, transparent data, and consistent quality while implementing post-consumer recyclate into its packaging. This is hoped to overcome any delays, inefficiencies, and obstacles to scaling PCR usage in a fast-moving production environment.
Bain & Co’s latest Paper & Packaging Report also highlighted the growing use of AI-enabled efficiency and effectiveness improvements in the sector. Its benefits are said to include ‘predictive and prescriptive’ maintenance, reduced downtime and labour costs, and increased tool-in-hand time.
