Valmet has been selected to deliver a full board making line with automation and lifecycle support for Sun Paper’s mill in Nanning, China, aiming to increase containerboard capacity and ensure ‘reliable, energy and resource efficient’ operation.
The line includes a full board machine from headboxes to winders, with technologies such as sleeve roll technology for efficient dewatering in the forming section. Valmet says it utilizes forming fabric compression to ensure smart usage of energy and ‘excellent’ quality parameters.
The dryer section of the board machine features compact geometry designed to deliver efficient board drying with ‘superior’ runnability systems and high machine performance. The line also includes spare parts, digital services and paper machine clothing, with improvements to customers’ existing machinery. The start-up is scheduled for fall of 2027.
“The high-capacity machine concept and the selected advanced technologies support our targets for energy-efficient and stable production. We expect these solutions to deliver strong performance while reducing energy consumption and ensuring our capacity goals. We value the long-standing relationship we have built with Valmet and look forward to continuing our cooperation with this new project,” says Ying Guangdong, vice general manager and chief engineer of Sun Paper.
In other board packaging news, earlier this year Mondi and Pacapime Hungary collaborated to provide high-quality corrugated packaging for delivering fresh produce to its customers in Central and Western Europe. Mondi says its ProVantage SmartKraft Brown containerboard grade features a 100% fresh fibre top ply, ensuring high surface integrity and consistent quality.
In May Holmen added a fresh-fibre fluting to its ‘ultra-lightweight’ cartonboard range, intended to help reduce material consumption and emissions without impacting performance. The move is expected to unlock a ‘unified approach’ to lightweighting, with grades starting at 72gsm.
