Mondi has announced it will be supplying salt producer Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke with solid board packaging for its products including table, pharmaceutical and animal feed salt.

Mondi says it has been supplying the company with trays for shelf placement and outer packaging for transport for several years. Following the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s Western European assets, Mondi now also provides Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke with ‘sift-proof’ solid board packaging for direct food contact.

The collaboration involves three of Mondi’s plants and aims to make sure the salt products remain dry, safe and hygienic throughout their journey. Mondi’s Forchheim plant produces high-quality solid board sales packaging said to be food-safe, offset printed in up to six colours and made from European primary fibres sourced from FSC-certified Scandinavian forests.

Mondi adds that its Grünburg plant supplies flexo-printed corrugated trays designed to keep products secure during transport while supporting effective shelf placement. The company’s Bad Rappenau plant manufactures corrugated transport boxes for products such as dishwasher salt and animal salt lick stones, with exports to the UK market.

The company recently developed an innovative banana box packaging solution that it says is 10% lighter than a previous solution, while being made with roughly 40% recycled fibre. The box is the result of a cross-border collaboration between Mondi, trading partner Europcell, Ecuadorian banana exporter Incarpalm and a leading European importer.

In other news, Twinplast unveiled its flame-retardant finish for its fluted sheets, said to provide enhanced fire protection for a wide range of packaging applications in transport, warehouse and industrial environments. Apparently, the treatment comprises halogen-free chemical additives which increase fire resistance without posing environmental or health risks.
