Consumer Convenience Technologies (CCT) has announced an aluminium lug version of its EEASY Lid, which allows consumers to vent a jar by pressing a button on the lid for easier opening.

According to CCT, its patented EEASY Lid reduces the amount of torque needed to twist off a jar lid by more than 58% for traditional lug lids and 40% compared to standard continuous thread (CT) lids. This can make packaging more accessible for disabled consumers or consumers with reduced mobility, for which opening a jar can be incredibly difficult and result in them avoiding particular products.

CCT claims that EEASY Lid will be the world’s first aluminium lug lid. The use of aluminium rather than steel, the metal lug lids are typically made from, reportedly makes the new EEASY Lid the more sustainable option.

The company adds that the CT version of its EEASY Lid has been shown to boost sales. In 2020, US-based Boyer’s Food Markets incorporated this lid variation into its Darci’s brand pasta sauce range at all 18 of its stores, allegedly resulting in an increase in sales of over 300% in a third-month case study period.

The EEASY Lid will be displayed at the Amsterdam trade show, PLMA’s New Product Expo, from May 31st to June 1st in Hall 8, F417.

Brandon Bach, president of CCT, comments: “By raising awareness of the EEASY Lid at PLMA, we will have the opportunity to show that consumers are willing to purchase products that are easier to use on an everyday basis.

“We have seen the consumer demand for a jar lid that is easier to open, and we have spent eight years of R&D to create the EEASY Lid with accessibility in mind. This is a win for companies looking to meet consumer needs and a win for consumers to open a jar lid with ease.”

In addition, CCT has partnered with Germany-based Trade Consult, a sales and marketing firm focusing on the grocery industry and food manufacturers, to secure interest and schedule meetings with brands for the European roll-out of the aluminium EEASY Lid. The company is apparently looking to make the EEASY Lid available to consumers in late 2022.

Friedrich Berlemann, CEO of Trade Consult, adds: “With years of experience in the food and retail industries, we immediately recognized the value of the EEASY Lid for brands and consumers.

“Beyond accessibility that we desperately need in packaging, the aluminium lug version of the EEASY Lid is more sustainable than traditional steel alternatives. With European markets holding sustainability to a high standard, the EEASY Lid checks all the boxes for packaging innovation.”
