
Ahlstrom has launched its Grease-Gard PLUS and Grease-Gard PRO today, designed to expand its family of high-performance grease-resistant papers for the North American quick service restaurant (QSR) and food service market.
Grease-Gard PLUS and Grease-Gard PRO are part of the company’s Grease-Gard portfolio, aiming to make it easier for converters, distributors and brand owners to identify the right paper solution based on application requirements while maintaining performance and reliability.
Ahlstrom says Grease-Gard PLUS combines grease resistance and enhanced water holdout, designed for recyclability and a suitable sustainable alternative to wax-treated papers for food service applications exposed to moisture or condensation. The company adds that it delivers reliable converting, ‘excellent’ printability and consistent packaging integrity across a range of wraps, bags and other food service packaging applications.
Grease-Gard PRO is designed for premium food service applications where ‘exceptional grease resistance and heat retention’ are needed, such as hot sandwiches, burritos and other grab-and-go foods. Engineered to provide an effective paper-based alternative to traditional foil bags and wraps, it seeks to help brands reduce the use of aluminium while maintaining food quality, freshness and consumer experience.
Grease-Gard PLUS and Grease-Gard PRO are now commercially available across North America through Ahlstrom’s sales network.
In similar news, UPM Specialty Materials and Paramelt revealed a bio and paper-based food packaging concept in March said to provide strong grease protection and improved end-of-life performance, particularly for bakery, fast food and convenience applications. The new solution is suitable for a range of food products including bakery, grab-and-go, and other dry or greasy goods.
Earlier this month Zerocircle unveiled its heat-sealable hydrophobic coating for paper cups made from natural polymers, said to provide water and grease resistance for hot beverages without a polyethylene lining or PFAS treatment. The coating aims to replace polyethylene lamination in conventional paper cups and the fluorochemical treatments used for water and grease resistance.
