NEW LIFE FOR PET BOTTLES

In this edition of the Spotlight, we hear from monta about its self-adhesive packaging tape, made from 90% post-consumer PET recyclate.

Rising global consumption leads to an increased demand for packaging materials, which eventually has to be disposed of as waste. Rethinking packaging materials is necessary to reduce the use of virgin, fossil-based materials and minimize waste.

The new self-adhesive packaging tape monta rPET 873 presents one solution. Its comparably thin yet strong rPET film backing consists of 90% post-consumer PET recyclate (PCR). Unlike bottles from closed deposit return schemes, it originates from disposed of PET bottles that are collected intentionally for the production of recyclate. Apart from giving bottles a new life, this effectively prevents the release of microplastics in the environment.

Given its recycled film, the new monta Greenline adhesive tape not only contributes to the circular economy but also qualifies for exemption from the EU plastic tax, imposed by some member states.

Material-saving performance

Its efficient natural rubber adhesive offers excellent immediate tack and adhesive strength, forming a durable bond with the carton, even with just one layer of tape. monta rPET 873 is great for closing medium-heavy cartons and is also suitable for transportation routes exposed to fluctuating temperatures.

Whether applied manually with a hand or table dispenser or by an automated packaging line, this tape also performs well on cartons with high recycled content.

Sustainability throughout

Thanks to its resource-efficient product design, monta 873 offers up to 100% extra tape per roll. In addition to its material-saving application, this reduces unnecessary roll changes and packaging material, while making the best use of valuable cargo space.

monta rPET 873 is the new choice for ecommerce, fulfilment, manufacturers of FMCG and consumer durables, industrial end-users and anyone putting value on sustainability.

Samples and more info are available through monta. The tape will also be showcased at Fachpack in Nuremberg, Germany, from 24 – 26 September 2024 in hall 6, at the monta stand #216.
