Dulicy has developed chocolate packaging made from natural Portuguese cork, intended as long-lasting souvenirs that tourists can reuse, recycle and biodegrade.
A selection of six designs illustrates landmarks from famous cities and iconic symbols such as the Rooster of Barcelos, caravel ships, Fado musicians, and Portuguese tiles.
Each cork container comes with a removable magnet or detachable postcard for additional long-lasting value as a keepsake.
Natural cork is described as a renewable, reusable, recyclable and biodegradable packaging material. Reportedly, the bark of a cork oak tree can be harvested without damaging or felling the tree.
Associação Portuguesa da Cortiça (APCOR) also specifies that, under Portuguese law, cork may not be harvested in intervals of less than nine years, allowing trees to regrow.
“Chocolate is at the heart of the Dulicy experience, but cork is the spirit – the essence that gives life, meaning, and authenticity to each package,” Dulicy states on its website. “It represents Portuguese tradition, the connection with nature, and the artisanal care that permeates the entire process.”
The chocolate bars are available from duty-free outlets at Lisbon and Porto Airports, attractions such as the Mercado do Bolhão in Porto, cafés such as Pérola do Rossio and Casa Macário in Lisbon, and shops such as Maviripa in the Azores and Apollonia in the Algarve. Consumers can also buy directly from Dulicy’s website and access international shipping.
